Activities
In Dundee, we have new trustees in George McIntosh and Jack McKeown. The Dundee office is now being reorganised by Anne Marie. Importantly, the website has been revamped and updated by
Ken MacDonald.
These are the plus points for the year. To achieve our goal of reaching self-sustainability, we have several major hurdles to overcome:
- A problem is lack of continuity in the training programme. Ian is on a two year assignment, Ravi one year and Derry for six months. Also they all arrive at different times. For the next
three years we will need expatriate volunteers to train Nigerian counterparts to take over as trainers. We need good funding to pay trainers a salary to enable them to stay longer than
these broken periods. This is a crucial point and we must direct ourselves to that end by seeking major funders.
- We must produce saleable products from the fashion/design/woodworking/metalwork sections. This can be in the domestic and hopefully the overseas market. Without this we cannot supply long
term employment, which is a major goal to alleviate poverty in the area. This is the challenge for the coming year.
Thanks to the efforts of the Trustees, the volunteer trainers and our donors in Nigeria and Scotland, we have reached this present level of growth. Donors include: Addax Petroleum,
American Womens Club, Lagos, British High Commission, ExxonMobil, Irish Embassy, LloydsTSB Foundation for Scotland and Pat's Bar/Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos. Thanks also to Mike Gibb for
his musical plays which have generated considerable interest and income for us in Scotland.
